For the second consecutive year, Guyana is hosting the Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency (CULP) Programme as part of a longstanding partnership between the Florida National Guard, the US Army Cadet Com-mand, the US Embassy in Guyana’s Security Coop-eration Office and the Guyana Defence Force.
Forty-seven personnel, comprising 42 soon-to-be commissioned Florida National Guard (FLNG) cadets and 5
instructors are here for the programme which began on July 11 and will end on August 6, a press release from the US Embassy said.
Under the CULP programme, hundreds of US military cadets have the opportunity to spend up to three weeks immersed in foreign cultures, learning more about how others around the world view the United States and, in the process, how to operate more effectively in international environments. Last year, over 1,200 cadets participated in the programme in over 40 countries worldwide.
According to the statement, the programme seeks to build a foundation to support understanding, cohesion and meaningful partnership between the next generation of US and Guyanese military officers.
US cadets will live, work and have cultural exchanges with fellow GDF cadets as well as other members of the GDF.
Activities typically include humanitarian service with the host population, military-to-military training and education on the social, cultural and historical aspects of the community.
