Dear Editor,
The situation in Gaza is becoming extremely volatile with an increasing number of deaths. The recent Israeli air strike on the home of a police chief resulted in the killing of 18 people. So far the greatest number of casualties are from the Palestinian side which historically has been at the receiving end ever since the conflict began some decades ago.
It is clear that the balance of forces both from a military and strategic standpoint is in favour of Israel which continues to get the support of the United States and some other Western powers, even though world opinion is heavily on the side of the Palestinian people who are seen as the victims of a cruel and unjust war, and who continue to be deprived of lands which legitimately belonged to them.
The logic of might being right is at the heart of the conflict as far as the Israelis are concerned, and it will continue to escalate unless and until there is a higher level intervention involving the United States and other Western powers.
Yours faithfully,
Hydar Ally
