Bush Lot Secondary were crowned Region Five champions, edging Mahaicony Technical Institute (MTI) by a 4-3 score line when the Digicel National Secondary Schools u-18 football tourney continued yesterday at the Mahaicony Community Centre ground.
Marlon Nicholson opened the scoring for the Bush Lot side as he netted through a 13th minute conversion. Nicholson would then double their advantage, sealing his first half double eight minutes later.
The home side would cut the deficit to one in the 29th minute as Carlos Miller found the back of the net. However Bush Lot Secondary would restore their two-goal cushion through a Ruel Chester effort six minutes later.
The back and forth nature of the fixture would continue as Quacy Richmond pulled one back for the home side in the 38th minute. Richmond would then level the score line as he netted five minutes later to complete his double.
Bush Lot Secondary however would have the final say, clinching the conference title with the go-ahead winner in the 56th minute through an Adrian Price effort. With the win, Bush Lot Secondary has qualified for the National Playoffs.
Over at the Kumaka Recreational Centre ground in the Region One zone, defending zonal champs Santa Rosa Secondary sealed their berth in the finale, defeating Wauna Secondary by an 8-2 margin compliments of a Keith DaSilva hat trick.
Falling behind early to a Mican Henry strike in the first minute of play, Santa Rosa would level proceedings as DaSilva found the back of the net in the 22nd minute. He would quickly push Santa Rosa into the lead, completing his double two minutes later.
It would then become 3-1 in the 26th minute as Terrence Chappelle scored. Brandon Phillips would make it 4-1 as he found the back of the net in the 33rd minute. The score line would continue to balloon as Wauna Secondary conceded an own goal five minutes later.
DaSilva would then complete his hat trick through a 50th minute attempt. Alonzo Abrahams would then get into the goal scoring feast as he etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 60th minute.
Dwayne Rabeiro would then cap off the huge win, netting compliments of a 69th minute effort. Wauna Secondary would eventually pull one back in the 71st minute as Lloyd Solomon netted.
As a result of the win, the defending champs will now face off with Port Kaituma Secondary in the grand finale today at the same venue.
