A routine trip around the city saw Mayor Hamilton Green receiving numerous complaints from residents about incomplete works.
Addressing a statutory meeting at City Hall on Monday, Green surmised that this was due to “administrative corruption.”
When he inquired about the city engineer’s plans for the city, Green was informed that they are no plans at the moment. The reason for this, Deputy Town Clerk Sharon Henry-Monroe said was because the council had not completed a statutory meeting since April.
This assertion was rejected by Deputy Mayor Patricia Chase-Green, who said that the engineer’s report was dealt with on April 28. The mayor then pointed out that matters are supposed to be filtered to the councillors after they have passed through the Town Clerk. He said that according to his knowledge, the reports are still on the Town Clerk’s desk waiting to be processed.
Monday’s meeting was the first in months that was not derailed by quarrels over the disputed position of the Town Clerk. The meeting however, was not entirely free of circus-like shenanigans as it got off to a bumpy start when the mayor observed that there was no note taker present. This led to a back and forth among a few councillors, the Mayor and acting Town Clerk Carol Sooba, after which a substitute note taker was appointed.
Soon thereafter, Sooba informed the councillors that she had to leave to attend to an emergency, which led to some loud outbursts from visitors observing the statutory meeting. Sooba exited and Henry-Monroe led the proceedings.
