(Antigua Observer) ST JOHN’S, Antigua:
The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has downplayed a controversial comment made by Jamaica Tallawahs captain, Chris Gayle, to a female reporter.
When journalists gathered at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds for the CLP T20 news conference that was not the story they were expecting.
It began with a routine question asked by a journalist who did not identify herself.
“How does the pitch feel so far…” was the question.
Gayle’s response: “I haven’t touched yours as yet so I don’t know how it feels.”
Some people later reminded the cricketer that he was at a news conference and later advised him to stick to cricket.
It was then that Gayle went on to answer the question.
In response, the CPL says no malice was intended and described the exchange as friendly between the player and the journalist.
