A man accused of threatening to chop his sister and burn down their house was yesterday placed on $15,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Geeta Chandan Edmond at the Georgetown Magis-trates’ Court.
The allegation against Pitram Persaud is that on July 14 at their 41 Robb Street, Bourda residence he used threatening language to his sister, Kamala Persaud.
The 57-year-old man denied the charge when it was read to him.
The prosecution’s facts are that on the day in question the complainant and her brother were at their Robb Street home when he pulled out a drawer and hit her on the leg after they had a misunderstanding.
According to prosecutor Jomo Nichols, the defendant then told his sister that he would burn down the house and chop her.
The prosecution had no objections to the man being granted his pretrial liberty.
After hearing the case, Magistrate Edmond in-formed Persaud that he was admitted to bail in the sum of $15,000.
Additionally, he was placed on a bond to keep the peace pending the determination of the matter.
The matter will be called again on July 23 for commencement of trial.
