Guyana suffered mixed fortunes in the defence of their Boys and Girls team titles when day two in the team section of the 2014 Caribbean Junior Squash Championships continued yesterday in Hamilton, Bermuda.
In the male section, Guyana defeated Trinidad and Tobago by a 3-2 margin to keep their hopes alive. Shomari Wiltshire gave the local side the early lead as he defeated Christopher Anthony in straight sets 11-0, 11-4 and 11-2 in their U-13 fixture.
Nicholas Caddle would then level the scores for the twin island republic as he defeated Alex Cheeks in their U-15 matchup 11-8, 12-10 and 11-5. It would then become 2-1 in favour of Trinidad and Tobago as Chad Salandy brushed aside Benjamin Mekdeci in straight sets.
Caddle sealed the U-17 victory, winning by a 11-9, 11-1 and 11-4 score line. Nyron Joseph would then level the scores for Team Guyana as he overcame Christian Edgehill 10-12, 11-9, 11-4 and 11-7 in their U-19 showdown.
Jean-Claude Jeffrey would then seal the come-from-behind win for Guyana, edging Nku Patrick 11-9, 9-11, 11-5 and 11-8. Trinidad and Tobago however would exact revenge on Guyana on the distaff side, clinching their match-up by a 3-2 score.
Makeda Harding gave Guyana a 1-0 lead as she defeated Jinan Al Rawi in straight sets 11-6, 11-9 and 11-6 in their U-13 opener. Alexandria Yearwood would level the scores for Trinidad and Tobago, defeating Rebecca Lowe 11-4, 11-6 and 11-6 in their U-15 match-up.
Marion Gillezeau would then give the twin island nation the lead as she overcame Larissa Wiltshire 7-11, 11-6, 11-5 and 11-9 in their U-17 showdown. Victoria Arjoon would then level the score for Guyana, brushing aside Marie-Claire Barcant in straight sets 11-7, 11-5 and 11-1.
Trinidad and Tobago however would walk away with the win as Charlotte Knaggs defeated Akeila Wiltshire 11-5, 11-8 and 11-6 in their U-19 fixture.
