A young man was yesterday fined $5,000 for chucking his sister, with the alternative of spending seven days in prison.
Devon Allicock accepted that on July 15 he unlawfully assaulted his sister, Asheena Allicock.
An apologetic Devon told Magistrate Ann McLennan before whom he appeared that he did not mean to hit his sister and that he was sorry for what he had done.
He explained further that it was not his desire for matters to have escalated to the point they did but his sister decided to go to the police.
When asked by the court if it was the first time that her brother had hit her, Asheena said no.
The prosecution’s facts are that the two live in the same house at 25 James Street, Albouystown.
The court heard that on the day in question at about 13:10 hrs the complainant was awakened by the cries of her niece and when she intervened in a matter concerning her brother, he chucked her.
The matter was later reported, investigations carried out and Allicock was subsequently arrested and charged.
The 22-year-old man however denied additional charges which stated that the following day he resisted and assaulted Eon Arthur, a peace officer acting in the execution of his duties.
After hearing the matters, the magistrate fined Allicock $5,000 over assaulting his sister.
Meanwhile, for the other charges he was placed on $2,000 bail each and bonded to keep the peace pending the determination of those matters.
These cases were adjourned to July 21.
The matters were called at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
