After being stranded at the Georgetown Public Hospital for a week after an accident, an elderly woman was finally picked up by relatives yesterday.
Hyomatie Bisnauth, 65, who lives with her daughter and son-in-law in Parfait Harmonie had been in the health care facility for the last week, after the accident which resulted in a fractured leg occurred two Fridays ago at the Stabroek Market wharf. Even though Bisnauth was discharged last week, her relatives did not pick her up until yesterday.
Bisnauth’s tale of woe began two Fridays ago, while she was on her way to collect her pension from the General Post Office. Having just disembarked from a speed boat, she was walking outside the market when a car drove over her foot, crushing her right instep. Unfortunately, as the driver was reversing to inspect the situation, he hit Bisnauth’s leg.
The driver of the vehicle then took Bisnauth to the GPH, where he left her at the Accident and Emergency section along with a woman and her grandchild who were walking with Bisnauth in the market. Bisnauth did not remember any details about the car or the driver but told others that she would be able to identify him if she saw him. The elderly woman related that the driver did not even make an attempt to return to the hospital to check on her.
Bisnauth is however thankful that she was able to retain her documents, including her ID card and pension book.
