Police this morning said that their investigations into a spine-chilling shoot-out on Wednesday between Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) officers and a group of suspected smugglers at Dundee, Mahaicony is being stymied by the non-submission of statements by GRA officials.
The police disclosure about the reluctance of agency officials will likely raise questions about the type of operation that the GRA was conducting that night.
The police statement follows:
Investigations are continuing into the incident that occurred on July 16, 2014, at Dundee, Mahaicony, ECD, where there was an exchange of gunfire between officials of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and a group of men during an operation.
During the incident Yogeshwar Singh, 33 years, who resides in the vicinity, sustained a grazed wound to his forehead from a stray bullet. He was medically treated.
Two men have been arrested, including the main suspect, and are in police custody.
The investigations however are being stymied by the non-submission of statements to the police by the GRA officials who so far have shown some reluctance to do so.
