Drag racing at South Dakota

Guyana’s fastest machines will return to the South Dakota Circuit tomorrow when the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) stages its International Drag Race Meet.

According to a press release, when the news broke, reigning drag champion Anand Ramchand stated that his body and his machines are running at an optimum level and his aim is to continue his drag dominance at the circuit.

Ramchand disclosed recently that he will be in the driver’s seat of four cars: the Toyota Supra, the Mitsubishi Evolution, the Toyota Vitz and a Toyota Celica.

The speed demon also promised fans that once the weather is favourable, records will tumble.

Meanwhile, the Super bikers are also expected to add some intrigue to the day’s packed activities. The likes of Stephen Vieira, Carlos Rodrigues and Carey Griffith are expected to be in top gear.

According to a source from the GMR&SC, the event is anticipated to be graced by dragsters from Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.

Some other big names expected are Syed Ali and Danny Persaud.

Additionally, race fans will have the opportunity to witness the Porta Tree Timing System which is equipped with specialized starting lights that allow quarter mile speeds to be recorded.

Action starts at 09:00 hrs and admission for adults is $1000. Children’s admission will be half that amount while vehicles free.

The event’s main sponsor is Banks DIH Ltd.
