Guyana kicked off its Caribbean Football Union (CFU) U-17 championship campaign with a one-all draw versus Barbados at the Estadio Panamericano in the Dominican Republic yesterday.
After a goalless first half, Barbados’ Antoine Greaves found the back of the net in the 49th minute but the rampant Keno Washington equalized in the 61st to prevent Guyana from starting the competition on the wrong foot.
With the stalemate, both teams earned a point each. Guyana will now focus on racking up wins against their other Group 3 opponents.
The local outfit will tackle Antigua and Barbuda tomorrow followed by a clash with the host on July 22.
Group 4 and 5 games will commence on July 23 and July 25 at the Roscow R.L Davies Stadium in The Bahamas and the Pedro Marrero Stadium in Cuba respectively. The final round of this competition is set to be played September 26th to October 3rd when the top teams join host Haiti.
