The glittering sapphire jewel weaving though the dark, humid forest is not an illusion. This iridescent butterfly is one of 29 species of Morpho butterfly that exist in the tropics. Their large wings make their flight look fanciful and bouncing but they are fast and powerful flyers; the males are extremely territorial and patrol their area, chasing out rival mates.
