A 53-year-old babysitter who assaulted another woman while at a funeral service after arguing about the daughter of the deceased, was on Friday fined $5,000 in default of which she will have to spend one month in prison.
Patricia Smith accepted the July 16 charge which stated that at Georgetown she unlawfully assaulted Denise Mc Dougall.
The prosecution’s facts are that the parties are known to each and were at a funeral service on the day in question when they had a misunderstanding over the daughter of the deceased during which Smith cuffed Mc Dougall to her shoulders.
When given a chance to speak, the defendant told the court that she did not cuff the virtual complainant but just took her hands off her cousin’s shoulders.
After hearing the case, Magistrate Ann McLennan imposed a $5,000 fine on Smith with the alternative of one month in prison.
