California Strike and Jack In My Style were the betting favourites to win yesterday’s feature D1 and Lower seven furlongs event at Bush Lot’s United Turf Club.
Red and Lovely did not get the memo.
The four-year old mare with jockey Ramnauth in the stirrups sent turfites at the club’s track into a frenzy as she galloped to a gate to pole upset victory over some of Guyana’s premier trotters.
With fans buzzing with excitement in anticipation of a victory for the favourites,
the pre-race hype trampled the competition Red and Lovely faced throughout the event.
This one was over early, in a scorching 1m: 25.50s to be exact.
Sent off as a long shot, Red and Lovely starting from the far post faced little pressure.
The Lisa Kissoon-owned thoroughbred had a blistering start and increased its lead with every powerful stride and drew off in the homestretch to seal an eight-length win which was worth an appetizing $1M.
It was the first win for the steed which was bought by the Night Eyes Stable just three months ago.
Princess Alisha (2nd) trotted off $500,000. Jack In My Style and The Message placed third and fourth in the seven-horse field.
