Region 10 Chairman and aspirant to the leadership of the PNCR, Sharma Solomon says he supports the move for a motion of no-confidence against the government.
In a statement yesterday setting out various positions, Solomon said on the issue of the confidence motion:
“It should be swiftly and decisively (used)!
After so many years of poor governance, what more chances do they need? Tough decisions have got to be made.”
The two opposition groupings, APNU and the AFC are currently discussing the modalities of a confidence vote. If the vote is successful it will trigger new general elections.
On the question of working with the PPP/C and the parliamentary majority, Solomon said, the one-seat opposition advantage has not been used effectively.
“The people have given the opposition the majority in parliament and this majority must be used to put pressure on the government to manage the affairs of government in the interest of all the nation’s people. It will be used to galvanise local and international support for respect for the Constitution and the will of the people. Power when gained must be used effectively. We are yet to see this applied consistently with the one seat majority”, he declared.
Solomon was a member of the team that negotiated an end to the blockading of Linden during unrest two years ago. Agreements which had been sealed as part of the deal are still to be implemented. The government and Region 10 have traded blame over where the responsibility for this lies.
