A Werk-en-Rust resident, allegedly caught with two live 9 mm bullets, was remanded to prison yesterday.
Calvin Dover, 28, of Lot 14 Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust denied that on July 22, at Georgetown he had two live 9 mm rounds of ammunition without being the holder of a licence, when the charge was read by Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Dover’s attorney Adrian Thompson told the court that the circumstances involving the charge surround his attendance of a wake, three doors away from his home. Thompson said there was a confrontation at the wake with a firearm and rounds were discharged. The attorney further mentioned that the police alleged that they found the bullets on his client. It is the police’s case that Dover was arrested and taken to the Alberttown Police Station on the day in question, at 18:00 hrs, for allegedly discharging a loaded firearm. According to Police Prosecutor Adduni Inniss, the two live rounds were found in the defendant’s left back pants pocket, in a wallet, during a search on his person at Alberttown. In addition, Inniss stated that the defendant was also in the possession of a police badge. A further search was conducted at Dover’s residence, but Inniss said nothing was found.
Thompson during his application for bail, told the court that he was surprised that Dover had to be taken to the Alberttown Police Station to be searched. Thompson added that his client maintains that he did not possess the two bullets, the police alleged he had. The attorney further mentioned that his client was locked up for an identification parade that never happened and that the description given did not fit Dover.
Subsequently Magis-trate Azore refused bail and adjourned the case until August 13.
