He did it last year. The question is can reigning Mr. Guyana, Kerwin ‘Chisel’ Clarke repeat the feat.
Clarke was kind enough to take some time to answer the following questions including the one his fans want to know which is: Can he chisel out another Mr. Guyana victory?
Following is the interview.
SS: You have mentioned in the past you have got what it takes to repeat. With such a stacked line up will your predictions come into fruition?
KC: I’m very confident in myself and my team is comprised of knowledge and experience and me having the raw materials I’m sure I will.
SS: Many people have counted out your perennial runner up and two time CAC gold medalist, Devon Davis who is once again gunning for you. Have you counted him out?
KC: As a good competitor I never have and will never underestimate my competition. This year’s training wasn’t as smooth but I will walk all legal avenues in order to retain my title.
SS: Has your off-season nutrition strategy been any different this year to years past? If so how?
KC: It has been different since my diet was key to me maintaining most of my gains after suffering a torn muscle tissue to my lower lumbar.
SS: Who do you see as your closest rival: Devon Davis, Sylvester Andrews, Clint Duke, Tremel King or Godfrey Stoby?
KC: I wouldn’t single out anybody. When you’re at the top where everybody wants to be they will all be coming strong, having said that I’m heading into this show taking no one for granted.
SS: You have been criticized at times for the narrowness of your ‘lats’ and the lack of thickness and separation of your calves? What’s your opinion on the subjects?
KC: We all have some sort of flaw and what’s most important is that you recognize it and make the necessary adjustments. I’m bettering them on each and every appearance I make on stage.
At the same time I have to retain a balance and symmetrical physique.
SS: You have made phenomenal progress in a relatively short period of time. You began competitive bodybuilding in 2011 when you won Novices at 150lbs. You have now bulked up to 176lbs of muscle along the way winning two CAC bronze medals, the HRC and the Mr. Guyana. This sort of progress and muscle gains is generally unusual. What do you attribute to your rapid rise in success?
KC: Let me first say it’s a body and mind connection, I noticed that I’m physically talented so the whole transition process was something that I liked hence making the sacrifice and dedication was natural for me.
I played the game legally in all aspects and have always welcomed feedback as it relates to improvements, progress and adjustments physically.
SS: If you do repeat as Mr. Guyana what will be your goal after?
KC: There isn’t any if! I’m very confident and will be ready to combat.
After seniors, I’m positively looking forward to CAC which is slated for October 2 in St. Maarten.
