Businessman N. Ramkissoon was taken to a private hospital last evening after he suffered a single gunshot wound to his thigh during a robbery at his establishment at La Bonne Intention (LBI), East Coast Demerara (ECD).
An eyewitness said a grey Toyota Premio pulled up in front of N.R. Ramkissoon Lumber Yard and Highway supplies around 21:05 hrs where it let out two “very tall” men. The men were reportedly fitted with bulletproof vests and toques, and each of them was said to be carrying “very long rifles.”
The gunmen reportedly grabbed the watchman looking over the establishment and slammed him into the door at the hardware store’s entrance as they took him inside. Once inside they ordered him to lie on the floor and he complied. They then made their way to the cashier who was also in the store, but she attempted to escape before they could capture her.
The cashier reportedly ran to the store’s entrance but turned back after a third man, the driver of the vehicle, pointed a weapon at her and told her to go back inside. As this was happening the watchman reportedly saw an opening and ducked out of the store without the gunmen noticing. He found a concealed area and hid.
Ramkissoon was in the store when the gunmen barged in, although it is not clear a what point he was shot. It is also unclear what goods and money the gunmen made off with.
