I note in the media that there is a lot of speculation that I will resign from the PNCR. At no stage did I tell anyone that I would resign from my party. I think Demerara Waves in its usual style conveyed that impression. What I recall saying is that I will think through the situation and together with my family and supporters decide the way forward.
I am a longstanding member of the PNC and PNCR and therefore will not be that casual about my relationship with our party. Unfortunately, some tend to mix up disagreement with certain outdated modes of operation as disagreement with the PNCR. I will always oppose the lack of transparency and confront authoritarianism and therefore will be in disagreement with the little cabal that believes that the PNCR is their fiefdom to do what they like with.
Please note as well that a principled criticism of my party does not connote being against my party. I have for years made the point that our party must put all mechanisms in place to ensure our internal elections can stand the modern democratic test.
May I also point out that it is immoral for one not to be responsive to the concerns of those who differ with them in their internal body politic but want their opponents in the national body politic to be responsive to their concerns.
A good opposition must show by its practice what it intends to do when it is in government. I will continue to promote good governance and pressure those in the PNCR to send the right signals by their actions rather than pay mere lip service to democracy.
