Norman Whittaker, Minister of Local Government and Regional Development today visited Region Two where at the Regional Democratic Council Compound, the Tapakuma Women's Agricultural Diversification Project was commissioned. According to the Caribbean Local Economic Development national coordinator, Dhanraj Singh, the project is funded by Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada (DFATD) in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and aims to strengthen local institutions by providing support services to small businesses. The project which is focused mainly on agricultural production in the Tapakuma area cost some US$42,000. Toshao of Tapakuma, Doreen Jacobis expressed how happy she was to receive the tractor. Photo shows several persons from Tapakuma who completed training in the operation and maintenance of the tractor.
