Cabinet withholds no-objection on $200M Zeeburg school

The construction of the proposed $200M-plus Zeeburg Secondary School in Region Three will be pushed back as Cabinet announced yesterday that it has withheld its no-objection because the contract evaluation committee was not properly constituted.

“My understanding was there was a problem with the eval (evaluation) committee that apparently was not properly constituted according to rules and regulations that govern the composition of evaluation committees,” Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon said yesterday. The Cabinet Secretary sought to correct an announcement he had made last week when he announced that Cabinet had given its no-objection to the $204.5M contract. Luncheon said that it seemed that the evaluation committee that considered the bids of the tenderers wasn’t properly constituted.

He told Stabroek News the decision on the way forward now, in terms of a re- evaluation or retender, lay with the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board.

Stabroek News understands that a decision on what happens with the contract will be finalized by the ending of next week and contractors will be made aware of this.

Meanwhile, Luncheon also informed of the no-objections to contracts for two other sectors.
