A Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara businessman was last Sunday robbed for the 5th time since commencing business operations there some 10 years ago and he has now decided to migrate.
Shaheed Hack, who is the proprietor of MS Hack and Son Supermarket located at his home was relieved of $2.7M when gunmen escaped with a bag of money dropped by his fearful wife who fled into their house for her safety.
Hack, 53, explained to Stabroek News yesterday that he was at home at the time his wife was returning from her routine collection of debts from wholesale customers in Parika along with three staff in a bus that they owned. He said that he was standing at the door at the front of their house, situated just past the supermarket when his
wife approached him with a silver grey Toyota Premio just behind her. He said that three armed men exited the car and shouted, “Don’t move”, after which his wife dropped the bag of money and ran into the house, with him scrambling to close the door behind her. The men, he explained, then picked up the bag of money and left.
Soon after, he said, he sent his nephew to get the police who came shortly afterwards, took some statements and left. He said that the police returned on Tuesday for further statements and collected the surveillance footage of his supermarket security cameras, which he believes didn’t capture any definitive image of the bandits or the number plate of the car.
Hack, who has owned several other wholesale supermarket businesses in Parika, Leonora and Blankenburg, for over 20 years, said that this is the 5th time he has been robbed at Nandy Park and the 7th time overall, with the other two robberies occurring at his supermarket in Blankenburg, which is now controlled by his ex-wife.
After being robbed for the 7th time, Hack said that he is ready to migrate and has already put his property up for sale. This was evident by the “Property for Sale” signs on his Nandy Park home. He said that he has been back and forth between Guyana and the US and has his green card so he is ready to migrate for good. He said, “I am devastated, scared and fed-up. I invest so much money and people coming and take it away. They only looking at what I have and not how much I owe.” He continued, “I scared for my life; it’s better to live like a beggar than to work hard for thieves”. He noted that his son already lives abroad and he is certain to be joining him.
