GEORGETOWN, Guyana, CMC – Trinidad and Tobago suffered their second batting collapse of the match to crash to an innings and 41-run defeat to hosts Guyana, in their final round match in the Regional Under-19 Championship here today.
Trailing by 193 runs after being bundled out for 117 in their first innings in response to Guyana’s 310 for nine declared, T&T could only muster 152 the second time around, to suffer a humbling at Bourda.
Jemeel Maniram top-scored with 39 while opener Amir Jangoo gathered 35 and partner Jeremy Solozano, 22.
Off-spinner Sharaz Ramcharran did the damage with three for 25 while leg-spinner Steven Sankar picked up three for 25. Seamer Keemo Paul (2-32) and spinner Daimon Waldron (2-20) supported with two wickets apiece.
There was no sign of the chaos to follow when Jangoo and Solozano were putting on 62 for the first wicket. However, once Solozano was bowled by a Sankar googly, T&T’s innings went into decline and the last nine wickets tumbled for the addition of 90 runs.
With just two runs added, Jangoo followed Solozano when he drove Waldron to Shimron Hetmyer at mid-off. Brian Christmas went without scoring, stumped off Waldron at 65 for three and Brandon Jaggernauth missed another Sankar googly and was bowled for one, leaving T&T reeling on 66 for four.
The next five wickets fell for 38 runs as T&T tottered at 104 for nine but Maniram and Akil Seetal, who finished 14 not out, held up Guyana’s victory bid with a 48-run last wicket stand.
Ramcharran fittingly got the final wicket when he held a low return catch off Maniram.
