Dear Editor,
Quite a lot is being written and said about the PNCR Congress held over the last weekend.
I was present all day Saturday and Sunday and with my experiences of party congresses since the early ’50s, the display of indiscipline, disregard for rules and disrespect for authority was the worst I’ve witnessed. It is clear that a small group led by some set of modern-day iconoclasts who do little real party work were behind this unhappy display of rowdiness.
I was also present when our leaders met in private to address all. I repeat, in terms of all the complaints by a section of the Linden delegation – we know that no system is perfect – these issues were resolved. It was obvious that some folks had a hidden agenda to cause trouble. Walking out of a congress is unprecedented. I mingled and listened; it was clear that David Granger could not have been defeated.
I spoke with all sides seeking a peaceful pathway, but to no avail.
Beyond this we are a political party, that is truly democratic where even the misguided can come and express their views freely.
We will prevail and save our beloved country from this moral decline and a journey of folly.
Yours faithfully,
Hamilton Green
