Dwarf ambarella commonly called Dwarf golden apple originated in the South Pacific and spread throughout the Caribbean, Florida South and Central America.
Dwarf golden apple is a fast growing plant which will produce fruit in approximately six months at a height of roughly two feet. The fruit is hard and green at first, then it grows soft and yellow upon ripening.
The fruit is often eaten fresh with a little bit of salt and pepper. It makes a refreshing drink, jam and jelly and can also be used for pickles and relish. You can also stew the fruit with brown sugar and spices. There is a single, sharp, spiny seed.
Dwarf golden apple can be planted in a three-gallon container or pot outdoors. It can be also be planted in the earth in full sun in regular potting soil. Fertilize with Blue Corn once every two months.
Dwarf golden apple fruits all year round. So enjoy the fruit and share the rest with your friends and family. There is always plenty around.
I remember one year my sister won the first prize for Golden apple achar made from fruit from our tree.
Until next week, happy gardening!
