Anthony Stevens, coach of defending two time Digicel U-18 champions Christianburg/Wismar Secondary, said he is confident his side will give a good account of themselves in Sunday’s finale against arch-rivals Waramadong Secondary.
Stevens in an exclusive interview said:” I am pretty confident we will pull it out and perform creditably on Sunday. I am not big on predicting who is going to win, I know my team will come, put their best foot forward and hopefully they will be successful.
“The boys are very confident but yet not too overconfident. Some of them would have played against Waramadong before so they know what to expect”.
“They are pretty confident of doing a good job. It’s not that they are nervous but the venue might make them more nervous because it is the National Stadium which is the best venue in Guyana you can play at,” said Stevens.
Questioned about the status of the team’s preparation, Stevens said “Preparation has been great. We are trying to fine tune little things because in our semi-final, a lot of weak areas were shown and we are trying to correct them so that it wouldn’t happen in the finale”.
According to Stevens “We are training at the Wisburg Secondary school ground every day for two hours. For 25 minutes we work on fitness and for remaining time we work on technical and tactical aspect of the game”.
Asked about the areas that his charges can exploit against the opposition during the matchup, Stevens said “Speed and height has been our greatest assets in the tournament. Air balls coming in from the wing will be asset. I think they will struggle to defend that and at set pieces because of the height.
He adde:“Basically our height and the forcefulness. Ninety minutes of forceful football will be asset. I think they are not accustomed to it, I know they are a team that will come out at you for ninety minutes despite the score line and that is what we also do”.
“I expect it to be a competitive game, a great showcase of talent from both teams and I think the crowd and football fans should expect a great game,” added Stevens.
