(Jamaica Gleaner) The agriculture ministry is to begin demonstration of a new National Animal Identification Traceability System (NAITS) with the tagging of the first head of cattle at the Denbigh Agricultural and Food Show yesterday.
The NAITS, which was announced by Agriculture Minister Roger Clarke in April during his contribution to the 2014 Budget Debate in Parliament, will be mandatory for the movement of all animals.
Acting Agriculture Minister Derrick Kellier and JAS President Senator Norman Grant, along with a team from the Ministry of Agriculture, will demonstrate how the NAITS will work.
Kellier says the system will be fully implemented in September and will be used by some 220 farmers.
