The Queen’s College Ground will come alive this morning with the crack of bats hitting balls and shouts of “play ball when the Guyana Baseball League’s E-Networks Summer Baseball camp commences at 9am.
According to a press release from the GBL, today and tomorrow are practice days with the activity taking place from 9am to noon and from 1pm to 4pm.
Fridays and Saturdays are designated game days for those who attended the practice sessions.
“All participants will be invited to join teams and participate in our age bracketed PONY competition in the final week of holidays,” the release stated adding… “As with all GBL activities participants are asked to bring a reusable water bottle and his/her lunch and snacks as needed.
Persons of all ages and genders are welcome to attend, learn and play this great game.”
There are no attendance fees for the summer camp and parents are encouraged to participate in the games alongside their children, the release stated.
“E-Networks is very happy to continue its involvement with this growing sport and to assist the children in Georgetown to experience the joys of playing baseball and softball, “a statement from the company said.
Baseball and Softball are enjoying a surge in interest and participation and plans are proceeding apace for a pilot Georgetown schools programme beginning September and lasting until November,” the release stated.
Meanwhile Robin Singh president of the GBL said that Guyana’s Jamaal Anderson who is presently pursuing a stint at the Major League Baseball (MLB) Orioles Academy has been generating a lot of interest in the USA.
