Former West Indies opening batsman Clayton Lambert will lead the Masters XI in their highly anticipated feature cricket match of the Guyana Festival against the President’s XI on Saturday at the Providence National Stadium.
The Master’s XI will lock horns with the President’s XI in a 20-overs-a-side contest which is expected to be a clash of familiar faces along with household names of Guyana and West Indies cricket.
Lambert was yesterday named skipper of a strong 17 man team which also includes fellow test players Clyde Butts, Travis Dowlin, Sew Shivnarine, Colin Stuart and Faoud Bacchus.
Bacchus is the most experienced of the Masters players having played 19 test matches and 29 ODIs while Shivnarine played eight test matches and a solitary ODI. Butts, the current chairman of the West Indies senior selection panel played seven test matches, Dowling played six tests and 11 ODIS and Stuart six tests and five ODIs. Lambert played five test matches and 12 ODIs.
The team also includes former United States of America cricket captain Steve Massiah, former first-class wicket-keeper/batsman Sheik Mohamed along with national pacers Keon and Raun Johnson and spinner Amir Khan.
The team will be coached and managed by former first class player Mark Harper. The President’s XI team is expected to release their squad today.
The match is expected to commence at 4pm.
