Recent winner of the recent Wray and Nephew Contender series in Jamaica title Sakima Mullings will be the star performer when the Guyana Boxing Board of Control stages a card this month end.
The card will be staged at Banks DIH Limited Thirst Park and the first bout will be a middleweight contest over six rounds between Kamal `Hitman’ Russell of Jamaica and Winston Pompey, a Guyanese based in Suriname.
The 31-year-old Mullings, winner of the 2014 Contender Series in Jamaica which carried a first prize of two million Jamaican dollars, will fight Guyana’s super middleweight champion Dereck Richmond over eight rounds in a junior middleweight bout. Richmond lost to Tsetsi `Lights Out’ Davis in the contender series while Mullings went on to knock out Davis in the final of the Contender Series. According to referee Eion Jardine, matchmaker for the card, Promoter of the recent Contender Series Mark Kenny will be attending the fight.
Another bout will be a bantamweight clash over six rounds between Richard Williamson of Berbice and Dexter Marques. This will be a rematch of their last year’s bout which Marques won on points. Next up will be the junior welterweight clash over eight rounds between Iwan Azore, a Guyanese based in Trinidad against Dexter Gonsalves.
Meanwhile Jardine says Fight night will recommence possibly next month four amateur bouts.
