The driver involved in the fatal accident at Woodley Park, West Coast, Berbice was granted his pre-trial liberty in the sum of $300,000 when he appeared at the Reliance Court yesterday.
The court heard that around 7:35 pm on August 3, Iqbal Laceman, 36, drove motorcar PKK 7500, resulting in the death of Eson Ritch, 39, of Lichfield.
Magistrate Rabindranauth Singh ordered Laceman to return to court at Fort Wellington on August 21 when the matter comes up again.
Reports are that Ritch, a minibus conductor was riding his motorcycle, CF 9968 with pillion rider, Clifford Mc Calmont, 23, when Laceman reportedly drove out of a street at a fast rate and struck them.
They were taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital where Ritch was pronounced dead on arrival. Mc Calmont was treated and transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
He sustained a cut under his chin and bruises about his body. His condition was said to be improving.
Attorney-at-law, Mursaline Bacchus, representing the accused asked for bail to be granted on the grounds that his client was a businessman and was the owner of a business and property at Rosignol.
He said Laceman was not a flight risk and was willing to lodge his passport with the court.
