Dynamic Airways may wait until November to once again start flying from Guyana to New York.
The suspension of the airline’s flights to New York was scheduled to end today, based on its last official announcement.
“Dynamic is regrouping and reorganising their operations. The plan is still to base one of their planes in Guyana… I think it will be a November start. I will know for sure on Wednesday next week,” local partner of the airline Gerry Gouveia, however, told Stabroek News yesterday.
Gouveia, who is currently overseas, says he will be meeting with the senior management team of Dynamic on Monday and will be in a better position to say accurately what the plans are.
Nonetheless, he said that the owner of the airline told him that the company remains committed to its Guyana operations.
He also informed that 25 local flight attendants have completed their training in the United States and will be returning home next week.
Last month, after a series of snags the airline decided to suspend operations to iron out administrative issues and secure a gate slot at the John F Kennedy (JFK) International Airport in New York.
“This temporary suspension will allow us to secure time slots at JFK airport, organise better ground handling and check in processes as well as secure schedule integrity which Dynamic Airways is well known for,” a statement from the airline had said.
The announcement was the latest in a series of setbacks for the new airline, which had a troubled entry into the local market after numerous problems beset its inaugural flight from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri and its subsequent grounding at JFK for a series of violations. As a result, the airline was forced to use alternative airports in Connecticut and New Jersey to transport passengers to Guyana.
Stabroek News was told by an official that some persons still have their bookings for flights in November and December and the airline wants to ensure a smooth and hassle- free restart so it prefers to wait a bit longer and get it right instead of rushing as it did initially.
