Dear Editor,
The Guyana Cricket Board’s website which contains invaluable information about the Board’s functions as well as those of the three county boards is commendable. Information on the history of the establishment of the GCB is very enlightening. A brief synopsis of the structures of the three county boards is also featured on the website. I was interested to read about the county of Essequibo and in particular the information posted about the North Essequibo Cricket Committee (NECC), which is one of eight area committees that make up the Essequibo Cricket Board. However, I was surprised to note that such information was described as official when in fact it is misleading and inaccurate.
The inaccurate information indicates that the NECC held its AGM for 2011 on February 13, 2011 at Sparta, with Mr Anand Azad securing the presidency. However the NECC held its election on January 30, 2011 at the ECB Hostel where Mr Prince Holder was elected president. Such verifiable facts are in the domain of the ECB which has never recognized any other entity. As a member of the NECC, I am therefore obliged to set the record straight and in the process I wish that GCB would do likewise and disseminate accurate official information on behalf of the Board.
Yours faithfully,
Elroy Stephney
