A Sophia resident was last evening shot in the neck as he made his way home and is now in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).
According to reports, Kwame Smith, 32, had been making his way home through Eping Avenue, Bel Air around 10 pm when he was stopped by another man. At the time, Smith had been on his bicycle and had been making his way home from his shoemaking job.
At the hospital, relatives and friends of the man said they are unaware of the details of the incident but are grateful that Smith was still alive. He was rushed to the hospital by an ambulance, they told Stabroek News.
It is unclear what the motive behind the shooting was. According to the man’s wife, nothing had been stolen from him. At the time, he had been carrying several valuables including his cellphone and laptop.
Up to press time this morning, Smith was undergoing surgery at the GPH.
