A Sophia teen, stabbed by another teenager from the area last month, is seeking justice since his attacker is roaming free, although police say they can’t find him.
Shaquille Chester, 19, of Lot 257 Thomas Street, Sophia told Stabroek News that he and his cousin were trying to talk to a girl on July 1, a block away from his home, when several teenaged boys approached them.
Chester said one of the young men shouted out to him, “Boy, you tell people to chop me” and threw several punches at him.
The lad said he took several punches before being stabbed to the temple with
a pair of scissors by another teenager (name withheld). “I walk for about five minutes before a fall down,” Chester said, explaining that he was trying to reach his home. He said the next thing he remembered was waking up at the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove the lodged scissors.
He was subsequently admitted. “The whole scissors was in his head,” said Chester’s mother, Christine, as she pointed to the X-ray of Chester’s face showing the blades of the scissors within the teen’s head.
The angry mother said she cannot believe that the parents of the accused are hiding him.
She said after a week of detention, her son’s attacker was released into the custody of his parents, one of whom is a police officer, Christine said.
She further stated that the police told her that there is nothing they can do until they find a lead to the location of the accused.
Now, Chester said that he is made to live with sharp pains in the area he was stabbed. His eyes hurt a lot, he said, since the blades were in close proximity to them.
Christine stated that she is hoping that her son’s alleged attacker will be brought to justice, in spite of a parent being a police officer.
When contacted the Police Crime Chief Leslie James said that he will make an enquiry into the matter, since it was never reported to him.
