West Demerara unit Slingerz FC defeated Georgetown outfit the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) by a 2-1 score line in an exhibition matchup when the Guyana Festival continued at the National Stadium, Providence on Saturday.
Deon Charter would give the Vergenoegen heavyweights the early lead as he found the back of the net in the 26th minute through a penalty kick conversion.
Awarded the penalty kick after left winger Amos Ramsay was brought down inside the area by centre half Selwyn Isaacs, Charter would dispatch his right footed attempt into the lower left hand corner of the net.
The lead would be doubled 14 minutes later compliments of a Dominic Garnett strike. Racing onto a through pass from Charter within the centre of the area, Garnett would slot his effort into the lower left side of the net after being in a one-on-one situation with goalkeeper.
Staring down a two-goal deficit, it would go from bad to worse for the Thomas Lands unit as Isaacs was shown a second yellow card in the 56th minute for lunging at the leg of Charter after the whistle had already been blown by the official.
GDF would eventually net what would prove to be a consolation goal one minute later as Delwyn Fraser scored, tapping home his effort into the back of the net after pouncing on a loose ball within the centre of the area, following an initial deflected Eusi Phillips strike by the Slingerz custodian.
