A Linden tailor, accused of escaping from custody after he was arrested, has been remanded to prison to await his next court hearing almost a month from now.
Rashleigh Baird, 50, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him. Baird, who had been arrested on an indecent exposure charge, is alleged to have escaped from the Wismar Police Station on August 10.
He was subsequently rearrested and charged for the alleged escape.
Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail and said that the defendant might not return to court for his trial. He added that Baird had no previous brushes with the law.
As a result, Baird was remanded to prison until September 11, when the case will be called again, this time before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
