International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) instructor Ramon Ortega Montes of Spain said yesterday that he intends to make participants in the ongoing Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) International Federation level 1 coaching and certification programme qualified at the end of the one week stint.
The programme, which commenced yesterday at the National Gymnasium, aims to teach players and coaches alike the fundamentals of table tennis as it relates to the specific areas of coaching. Ortega Montes, an ITTF Latin American Development Officer also told Stabroek Sports that he will be carefully assessing the participants throughout the week, while various fitness and technical exercises will be carried out.
Ortega Montes, who has had stints across the world helping develop many countries national table tennis programmes, pointed out that the core aim at the end of the clinic is to ensure that the participants acquire their level one coaching certificate which can be used to help guide the younger, amateur generation of table tennis players in Guyana.
Apart from the level one certification course a level two programme will commence immediately after but Montes confirmed that persons who took part in the first novice will have to wait one year before they can be eligible for participation in the level two course.
The level one (1) and ITTF level two coaching certification programme during the period 15th – 19th August and 21st -26 August 2014 respectively at the National Gymnasium.
