Guyana’s squash players Sunil Seth and Alex Arjoon among the men and Victoria Arjoon and Akelia Wiltshire for women made strong starts for individual honours as the Caribbean Area Squash Championships got underway in Barbados yesterday.
Arjoon got past the tough Trinidadian Nku Patrick 11-5, 11-8, 11-5 while Seth defeated Anthony Fellowes of Bermuda 11-1, 11-3, 11-5 in a men’s second round clash.
Also winning yesterday was Richard Chin who defeated Chayse Mc Quain of Trinidad 11-1, 11-2, 11-3.
In other men’s results Guyana’s Ramon Chan-A-Sue defeated Matthew Mackenzie of Barbados 11-5, 11-1, 9-11, 11-6 but lost his second round match to Micah Franklin of Bermuda 11-2, 11-7, 11-3.
Robert Mc David too won his first round match against Shemane Griffith of Barbados 11-5, 11-8, 11-3 but subsequently lost to Jules Snagg of St Vincent and the Grenadines 11-3, 11-9, 8-11, 11-4.
Jason Ray Khalil of Guyana defeated Mark Sealy of Barbados 11-5, 10-12, 11-8, 11-5 but lost to Colin Ramasra of Trinidad 11-4, 11-8, 11-4 while Guyana’s Nicholas Narain defeated Copeland Straker Barbados 11-6, 11-4, 12-10 but lost to Ashante Smith of Jamaica 4-11, 1-11, 4-11.
The other Guyanese male player Brendan Mounter was beaten by Gavin Cumberbatch of Barbados 11-4, 11-2, 11-8.
In the women’s category Akeila Wiltshire defeated Marian Goodall of the Cayman Islands 11-3, 11-7, 11-4 and Susie Lacey of Bermuda 11-8, 11-2, 11-8 to reach today’s quarter finals while Victoria Arjoon defeated Lyn De Cambra McLeod of Barbados 11-2, 11-8, 11-5 and Lara Connolly 9-11, 12-10, 11-3, 11-5 to also reach the quarter finals.
Larissa Wiltshire defeated Marie Claire Barcant of Trinidad 11-7, 4-11, 11-7, 11-5 but lost to Karen Meakins 11-2, 11-3, 11-0 while Ashley de Groot of Guyana defeated Meagan Best of Barbados 11-9, 15-13, 11-4.
