Dear Editor,
How could I have been so blind, so inexcusably daft? I have to eat my previously challenging words. It is not easy but unqualified apologies are in order.
Apologies are tendered to the presidents and the entire PPP. I confess that they had it right all along. I was wrong, terribly wrong. How could I have been when the evidence proliferated for even the most ignorant to behold and to appreciate?
When leaders spoke powerfully, and insistently, of “progress and development” they were on the money. They knew that of which they spoke. When the PPP people glowed with incandescent pride at the lavish, invisible, incalculable Foreign Direct Investment in this country, they knew too. No one should challenge them going forward. Certainly not me, I have learnt my lesson.
As I chastise myself, I appeal to all Guyanese to remove the blinkers, and absorb the evidence of all the rich rhetoric; to identify with the powdered scented inspiration that move party leaders and the party itself to immovable insistence that this country is on the move, both above ground and underwater.
There it is: that incomparably majestic creation from the hands of the Guyanese workers, the laboratory of its innovators, the minds of its thinkers, and the deep pockets of its entrepreneurs. It is time for all – believers and heretics – to prostrate themselves in submission, in awe before the Robb Street class submarine, which should be named ‘Freedom of the Seas’ or ‘Progress and Development.’ The latter would be most fitting; there is our very own wooden ark, and all the Noah(s) aboard. Indeed, life here is full of lush promise.
Next on the assembly line are drones and spacecraft. The sky is the limit. And that submarine is an unchallengeable tribute to how far we have come.
Yours faithfully,
GHK Lall
