Colts overcame Buxton by 78-63 score line when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) Trifecta first division tourney continued on Saturday at the Burnham Court.Nikkoloi Smith led all scorers as he netted a whopping 32 points. He was assisted by Sheldon Thomas, Dave Causway and Niko Fraser who had the next best score of 11, nine and seven points respectively.
Quacy Newton led the Buxtonians with 23 points while Neil Bowman supported with 15 points. The opening quarter would see Colts taking a 20-13 lead as Smith and Causway combined to net 13 points. Smith led the way netting eight while Causway supported with five points. Newton played a lone hand in their opening exchanges as he netted seven points. Smith would continue his scoring form in the second period, netting 11 points as Colts held off the East Coast of Demerara unit to take a 35-31 lead into halftime.
Newton once again was the primary threat for Buxton as he netted seven more points. Buxton would then pull within two points in the third stanza, outscoring Colts by a 17-15 margin. Neil Bowman was the principal scorer in the period for Buxton as he netted a healthy 10 points.
On the other side, Sheldon Thomas was the main scorer for Colts as he scored seven points. The fourth period would be all about the Georgetown unit as they outscored Buxton 28-15. Smith led the offence with nine points in the period while Fraser, Thomas and Causway supported with six, four and four points respectively to close out the win. Newton was the main scorer in the period for Buxton as he shot his way to nine points.
The final matchup of the triple header witnessed Trinity Grid Holdings (TGH) Pacesetters defeating Knights by an 89-71 margin. Stephon Gillis was the leading scorer for the victors as he shot his way to 21 points inclusive of five three pointers. Registering 14 points in the defeat was Randy Aaron. Holding onto a one point lead after 23-22 first period, TGH Pacesetters would begin to extend their advantage as they outscored Knights 27-18 to go into halftime leading 50-40.
They would continue to extend their lead in the third as they out shot Knights 22-19 to go into the final period ahead 72-59. TGH Pacesetters would then closeout the win as they once again outscored their adversaries by a 17-12 margin.
In the earlier matchup of the tripleheader, Republic Bank Nets crushed Panthers 81-40. Mortimer Stewart, Fabian Johnson, Wayne Lashley and Drunson McCulley led the winners with 22, 18, 10 and six points respectively. Netting 22 points in the loss was Devon Agard.
