Pradika Persaud, who was found dead on Friday evening at Boerasirie, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), was strangled to death, according to the results of an autopsy.
‘D’ Division Commander Senior Superintendent Ian Amsterdam told Stabroek News that the examination that was performed by pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh found that Persaud, 26, also known as ‘Simona,’ of Lot 532 Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo, died as a result of asphyxiation, due to compression of the neck.
The Commander did say that other samples have been taken from the body to be tested.
Amsterdam, however, did say that the police have been able to get a few leads, although an arrest was yet to be made up to yesterday.
Persaud’s body was found on the roadway at 11:30 pm on Friday with marks on the neck and tyre tracks on the body as well. Premchand Persaud, Pradika’s brother told this newspaper that his sister would binge drink at village rum shops with friends and stayed at various places, since her family disapproved of her lifestyle.
He called for justice as did other relatives of the deceased.
