Bodybuilder Delon Harlequin died last week, two days after his motorcycle collided with a car at the Friendship, East Bank gas station.
Harlequin, of Lot 10 B Grant Street, Craig, East Bank Demerara, was 32.
Relatives told Stabroek News that they received word on the evening of August 12 that Harlequin was involved in an accident at approximately 8pm. The dead man’s brother said that they were informed by Harlequin that he had been proceeding north on the East Bank carriageway headed towards his home when his bike collided with the front of the car that was coming out from the gas station. The brother related that Harlequin was pitched off the bike and hit his head on the road before ending up in a trench. “He was alert all the time,” added the brother, who noted that it was Harlequin who gave information to persons who eventually alerted relatives of the accident.
Harlequin was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre and later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he underwent surgery and subsequently died, two days after the accident.
A post-mortem examination later ruled that Harlequin died as a result of multiple injuries.
The driver, Dexter Phil, has since been charged with causing Harlequin’s death by dangerous driving. He has been released on $400,000 bail.
Harlequin is survived by his fiancé, who is two months pregnant.
