Eight persons have been trained on machine operation and maintenance as part of a project to boost agriculture at Mara on the Corentyne.
The Caribbean Local Economic Development Project (CARILED) in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development and the Mara Farmers’ Association concluded three days of training for eight persons in Machine Operation and Maintenance.
A release from CARILED said that the training was held on on 8th – 10th August, 2014 at the Mara Community Centre, Ma- Retraite Scheme, East Bank Berbice, Guyana. The training formed the final aspect of the Mara Agricultural Enhancement Project which seeks to boost the productive capacity and diversify the undertakings of farmers in the Mara (California to Germania) Area.
The release said that the workshop was divided into one day of theoretical training and two days of practical (on-site) training. It was facilitated by Sharda Shew, Service Manager – Farm Supplies LTD. Participants were issued with a certificate of completion by the Mara Farmers’ Association.
CARILED is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Develop-ment, Canada, formerly the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). It is a six-year programme launched in May 2012, with headquarters in Trinidad and Tobago, and sub-offices in Saint Lucia (OECS) and Ottawa, Canada. The programme is being implemented by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM).
