An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted today on the body of 20-year-old Nickel Leacock, who was knifed to death along a trail at Blackwater Backdam, Region Eight.
According to a police source, Leacock’s alleged attacker remains in police custody at the Mahdia Police Station and an autopsy is expected to be performed today.
Leacock was found dead along the trail by a group of Brazilian miners early on Tuesday morning. The Mahdia resident was headed into the village to deliver goods to his father, who was working in the area. However, when he arrived in the area, Leacock got involved in an argument with another man. The next morning he was found dead with stab wounds to his lower back.
Nickel’s sister Nicola Leacock said the man who Nickel had the argument with was arrested by police, after one of his slippers was discovered at the crime scene. She said police told her family that while the man admitted to arguing with Leacock the day before he died, he denied killing him.
She said her brother had refused to go into Blackwater but she had persuaded him to go and help their father.
Leacock is survived by his father and eight siblings.
