Eighty-one year-old Dorrel Canterbury, who was beaten and robbed by two persons who later set her Ann’s Grove house on fire last week, has been released from the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The elderly woman was discharged on Tuesday, after being hospitalised for a week. Her nephew, William Canterbury, said he decided to take his aunt into his home as she was still shaken up by the attack. Last Tuesday, Canterbury was making tea in her kitchen when her attackers jumped through her window and beat her. She escaped and called out for assistance from a neighbour while they later raided her home for valuables.
However, the young men had already set the two-storey house on fire. One of them was caught by a police rank, who saw him fleeing the scene. He was apprehended and later led the police to his accomplice, who was seeking refuge under a bed in his home.
Last Friday, two persons, including a relative of the elderly woman, were remanded to prison after being charged over the attack. Delroy Canterbury, 17, and Kevin Gulliver, 21, were charged with arson before Magistrate Zamilla Ally at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court. They are expected to return to court on September 23.
