A Leguan farmer and the captain of a small passenger boat were rescued around 3pm yesterday after their boat laden with agricultural produce capsized in the Essequibo River.
A release from Maritime Administration Department said that the incident occurred in the Essequibo River close to the shore at Success, Leguan and that the duo was rescued by two boats that were in the vicinity.
The farmer’s produce was destined for Parika however some of it sunk when the boat capsized while the rest was recovered and taken to Parika.
This newspaper was told by an official of MARAD that both men returned to their homes in Leguan yesterday and that the agency was investigating the incident.
