Days after businessman Ashok Raghoo, 43, was shot to death during a daytime robbery on Vlissengen Road, police are still seeking a second suspect, while one remains in custody.
This is according to Crime Chief Leslie James who also told Stabroek News that the use of surveillance footage is playing a major role in the police’s investigations. “Checking cameras is always part of our investigations,” he further noted.
The man in custody was held on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Raghoo’s wife Shayraz Raghoo, 49, is still a patient of the Georgetown Public Hos-pital (GPH), nursing a gunshot wound to the right thigh.
When visited by this newspaper yesterday, Mrs. Raghoo maintained that she was not ready to speak to the media. Relatives added that the matter was a “private one.”
On Monday, the Raghoos were in their car PGG8291 at a traffic light in front of the Botanical Gardens when two bandits rolled up on the driver’s side and shot at the couple.
They were relieved of an undisclosed sum of money along with a licensed firearm and accompanying ammunition. According to the couple’s daughter, the pair had been on their way to pay bills and employees when they were attacked.
Mr. Raghoo was later pronounced dead on arrival at the GPH. Stabroek News was informed by relatives on Tuesday that Mrs. Raghoo was shot after she grabbed on to the bag that contained money, a licensed firearm and other important documents.
