Accused of stealing over $400,000 worth of items from a home, twenty-one-year old Colwyn St Helen was yesterday granted bail after denying the charge.
According to the charge, on July 15 at Providence, while in the company of others, St Helen broke and entered the home of Nicholas Marks and stole $407,900 worth of items, including a laptop, alcohol, a backpack and a number of gold and silver bangles, which belonged to Marks and Sherene Bissoon.
St Helen pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by city magistrate Fabayo Azore.
Attorney Marcel Bobb, who represented St Helen, made an application for reasonable bail and said that his client had no previous brushes with the law and had co-operated fully with the police during the investigation. Bobb further said that St Helen was not a flight risk.
Though no objections were raised to his bail, the prosecutor requested it be set in a substantial figure and asked that the defendant lodge his travel documents. He was also ordered to report to the Providence Police Station every Friday at 9am. Magistrate Azore set bail in the sum of $100,000 and ordered St Helen to report to the Providence Magistrate’s Court on October 13, when others charged in relation to his matter will also make their appearances.
